Philosophy and Values

The New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis (NJI) is a community that upholds a commitment to furthering knowledge and psychoanalytic growth in a supportive environment. We aim to expand psychoanalysis and its impact not only in clinical practice but in contemporary life. Our program began as the first formal psychoanalytic training for non-medical professionals in the state of New Jersey, accredited by the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis, Inc. (ABAP). In 2022 NJI celebrated its 50th anniversary. To this date, our institute has certified more than 100 analysts.

NJI offers a diverse, vibrant and intellectually rich community. We are a group of clinicians from all disciplines. We have members who bring the wisdom and expertise of many years of training and clinical practice to the new generation of future psychoanalysts.

In addition to the regular curriculum in each of our training programs, NJI offers vast opportunities for professional development. NJI sponsors study groups, book clubs, summer workshops, fall and spring conferences and informal ways in which faculty, members and candidates engage with one another.

The Neil Wilson Psychoanalytic Clinic is not only a valuable part of the clinical training of our candidates but also is a vital part of the community NJI serves. We offer affordable, quality treatment to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

NJI’s foremost commitment is to the psychoanalytic development and wellbeing of its candidates and members.

We look forward to you being part of our community.
