“Borderline Personality”

In this workshop, a psychoanalytic understanding of the borderline personality will be introduced. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the five components of a structural diagnosis of the borderline personality.
  2. List and describe the six defense mechanisms of the borderline personality.
  3. Describe the etiology of the borderline personality.

Workshop Leader:

Richard M. Alperin is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a certified psychoanalyst.  He is Co-Chair of the Training Board at NJI, a member of NJI’s  faculty, and has written over 20 articles, chapters in books, and book reviews for professional journals.

“Schizoid Personality”

In this session, the schizoid personality will be presented from a psychoanalytic perspective.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To describe the etiology of the schizoid personality.
  2. To elucidate treatment approaches of the schizoid personality.
  3. To identify some of the challenges in working with the schizoid personality.

Workshop Leader:

Sheldon Weiss is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a certified psychoanalyst who received a certificate in psychoanalysis from the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP).  He is Co-Chair of the Training Board at NJI and a member of NJI’s faculty.

“Narcissistic Personality”

This workshop will present Narcissism from a psychoanalytic perspective.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To understand the etiology of narcissism.
  2. To differentiate normal narcissism from pathological narcissism.
  3. To identify challenges working with narcissistic patients.

Workshop Leader:

Janice Victor is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a certified psychoanalyst in private practice.  She is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees at NJI and a faculty member there.
