COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In this seminar we will read closely Freud’s papers on technique, exploring the fundamental ideas that guide the psychoanalytic encounter. The concepts to be explored include: free association, transference, resistance, repetition compulsion, abstinence, neutrality, and working through. The objective of the course is to develop the candidate’s appreciation and understanding of how these timeless papers are relevant to the practice of psychoanalysis today and to apply these psychoanalytic concepts to their clinical work.

Lee Ann Marquard, LCSW – Psychoanalyst in private practice in Ridgewood, NJ. She completed the 5-year Advanced Training Program at New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis. She has served as NJI’s Chair of PACO, Chair of Membership, member of the Executive Board and Board of Trustees. Additional psychoanalytic studies include Lew Aron’s contemporary study group and study of French psychoanalysis with P. Sauvayre. She is a member of NJI’s Faculty, Supervisor, and Control Analyst.

There is a $115.00 Fall Semester Registration Free which includes a one-year subscription to Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing PEP and a one-year membership to the Psychoanalytic Candidates Organization (PACO).
Refund policy: After the 4th class session, there is no refund. Monies paid for classes when candidates withdraw from the program after the 4th class, will be applied as a credit, if the candidate returns to NJI. If a candidate withdraws before the 4th class, 1/2 tuition will be refunded. (This excludes the registration fee of $115).
