COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course builds on the foundational ideas presented in Psychopathology I. It aims to familiarize candidates with the Second Edition of Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM-2) while increasing their understanding of the differences between the nosology of the PDM-2 and that of the DSM-5-TR. This course will examine the phenomenology of major diagnostic categories while analyzing the psychoanalytic literature and its conception of different pathologies. Candidates will be able to recognize and assess clinical states, evaluate the difference between repression and dissociation and analyze how certain pathologies impact the clinical process.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • Differentiate between the nosology of the PDM-2 and the DSM-5-TR.
  • Describe the phenomenology of different diagnostic categories/pathologies.
  • Analyze how the diagnosis of certain pathologies influences clinical process.
  • List differences between repression and dissociation.

TECHNOLOGY:

This course takes place online with synchronous video on Zoom (fully interactive). System requirements are:

  • Operating Systems: Windows XP or higher, MacOS 9 or higher, Android 4.0 or higher
  • Internet Browser: Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Google Chrome, Firefox 10.0 or higher
  • Broadband Internet connection: Cable, High-speed DSL and any other medium that is internet accessible.

COSTS:

This course costs $350.00 and there is a $115.00 Fall Semester Registration Free which includes a one-year subscription to Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing PEP and a one-year membership to the Psychoanalytic Candidates Organization (PACO).

Refund policy: After the 4th class session, there is no refund. Monies paid for classes when candidates withdraw from the program after the 4th class, will be applied as a credit, if the candidate returns to NJI. If a candidate withdraws before the 4th class, 1/2 tuition will be refunded. (This excludes the registration fee of $115).
